Brian Herbert from Alton will be talking about Integrated Swarm Management. Brian is a member of Petersfield BKA and last came to talk to us in Basingstoke 8 years ago. He’s scheduled to speak at the 2022 BBKA Spring Convention.
Here’s a brief synopsis of Brian’s talk:
“A few years ago I stopped treating swarm management as an add-on or an after-thought and began using swarm prevention manipulations as a matter of my normal management process. Specifically I will cover the following points in my talk:
- Conditions that trigger swarming behaviour (very briefly) to get everyone on the same page.
- My management of a colony from start of season through to summer and what additional benefits the process brings
- Techniques for reversing swarming behaviour once triggered
- Some tips and tricks
- Questions and discussion”
Attendees will be asked to sign in and provide a mobile phone number for track and trace purposes. Facemasks won’t be obligatory, but chair spacing in the hall will be further apart than in pre-pandemic days. Hand sanitiser will be available at the door if required. A suggested donation of £2.00 towards hall hire/refreshments remains unchanged from previous years.
The doors will open at 7 pm for a 7.30 pm start. We would welcome your help in setting up the hall from 7 pm, which will also give you a chance to catch up with fellow beekeepers before the talk.
Tea, coffee and homemade cakes will be available before and after the talk and we look forward to seeing you.
