Basingstoke & District Beekeepers’ Association has existed as an association affiliated with Hampshire and British Beekeeping Associations since 1964, but its origins go back to before the First World War. We have members from across North Hampshire; over 160 active members of all ages, most of whom keep bees but some are new members in training and some who no longer keep bees but retain an interest.
We have a programme of talks once a month throughout the winter, and in the summer meetings take place at the association apiary in Ibworth. Members also have the opportunity to site hives at the association’s apiaries by agreement with the Apiaries Manager.
We have a study centre in the Walled Garden at Down Grange. Currently the monthly meetings take place at Sherborne St John Village Hall. We also have the use of The Bothy from time to time and it is also used for committee meetings.
There is a small charge for attending meetings, which offsets the cost of hiring the venue and the refreshments provided.
The AGM usually takes place in March of each year which is an opportunity to elect new committee members, review the year and is also a very social evening with a chance to talk over a glass of wine with some cheese.
