The Association is currently undertaking a review of its beekeeping training and one of the elements that is up for discussion is the mentoring of first and second year beekeepers.
An option being considered is for the Association to allocate a suitable mentor to match the individual needs of a new beekeeper. This may involve the new beekeeper having a “Bee Buddy” with whom they manage their colonies initially or other new beekeepers may wish to be able to contact an experienced beekeeping association member by telephone or email to get advice on a specific issue or guidance on how to proceed. There may also be circumstances where the new beekeeper may need to request a visit for assistance with a specific issue or undertaking a colony manipulation.
Once a suitable and sustainable plan has been made around these ideas, we will post further information on this page. However, in the meantime, please feel free to approach established members of the Association at any of the Apiary or Winter meetings to discuss any questions you may have.
