A special club members evening, a number of members have expressed an interest in talking about aspects of their beekeeping.
– Ian Clewley -. Ian will summarise the agenda for the evening, and will tell you about the success of the Event in the Basingstoke Malls last weekend (including the new technology we used for the first time for Contactless Payments). He will also remind attendees about forthcoming events in Hampshire in the next couple of months.
– Steve Storer – Steve will explain our evolving strategy for dealing with any identified Asian Hornets in our area. There have been several nests discovered (and destroyed) in the UK in 2019, but we must all be diligent in looking out for Vespa Velutina
– Ken Trussler – After the very successful members apiary meeting in early July at his own large apiary in Tadley, Ken Trussler, our association’s apiary manager and swarm coordinator, has kindly agreed to talk to us about his 2019 beekeeping year. Ken is an experienced and successful queen rearer and ‘bee farmer’ with years of experience in beekeeping on a commercial scale. I am sure Ken will also have some stories to tell attendees about this year’s swarms and cut-outs.
– Eric Denton – Eric is one of our vice-presidents and is another long term beekeeper. He has volunteered to give a talk entitled “Education in Beekeeping” and could also be persuaded to give a future class in getting your honey from comb to pot if there is enough interest.
– Susan Howe – Sue has been a member of BDBKA for several years and has been persevering with the use of a “Flowhive”. Sue wil give attendees an update on the practicalities of using this advanced hive, and has lots of photographs showing this hive in use.
YOU are ALL welcome, whatever your level of beekeeping experience! Please feel free to bring along your friends, family and other beekeepers as well.
The doors will open at 7 pm for a 7.30 pm start. We would welcome your help in setting up the hall from 7 pm, which will also give you a chance to catch up with fellow beekeepers before the talk.
Tea, Coffee, Biscuits and Freshly Baked Cakes will again be available upon arrival (as soon as the water has boiled). These will also be available after the talk.
A suggested donation of £2.00 towards Hall Hire/Refreshments remains unchanged from previous years.
